The Sygros Moulages (some graphic images)
Photos from the moulage collection of A. Sygros Hospital, Athens, Greece. Most of these wax figures, created between 1910 and 1954 from casts made of actual patients, depict the symptoms of sexually-transmitted diseases. I was left alone most of the days I worked there, and judging from the layers of dust, cleaning was an annual, lackluster event. I could never let go of the human connection. I got to know the moulages. Some I liked a lot, some I didn’t care much for, but their extremely life-like appearances gave me the feeling that the ghosts of the models were somehow present during the sessions.
